What's in Your Water?

Florida is ranked as having the worst water in the country, only surpassed by the state of Texas.

Agricultural Spraying

Dissolved Minerals

  • Florida water is filled with dissolved minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sulfate, potassium, chloride, iron and bicarbonates.

  •  Florida, as a whole, has "hard" to "very hard" water.

Industrial Runoff, Pesticides, and Fertilizers

  • Phosphate mining leachate, industrial waste, ranching (animal waste),  agricultural pesticides and fertilizers find their way into our water sources.

  • Agricultural runoff is a major source of problematic nitrates found in Florida water sources.

  • Phosphate sediment ponds containing toxic, as well as radioactive (Radium-226) waste, are located in Riverview and throughout Florida presenting a risk to our water sources.

Reclaimed Water
  • Reclaimed water is part of your drinking water.

  • “Reclaimed Water” or "Potable Reuse" is a politically correct way to say that you are drinking processed sewer water. Click below see Hillsborough county's "One Water" diagram.

  • Reclaimed water contains antibiotics and other pharmaceutical compounds from prescription drugs which may not be filtered out by the municipality.

Toxic Waste

Industrial waste sites are leaching toxins into our groundwater.

  • Florida has over 50 high-priority Superfund Sites, including one in Hillsborough County.

  • There are over 450 major toxic waste sites throughout Florida.

Toxic Purification By-Products

  • Scientific research concludes that the use of chloramine and chlorine to purify water creates cancer causing by-products in your water.
